This workshop is geared toward choreographers\, improvisors\, and dance teachers. \nWHAT WE WILL DO \nThis workshop will bring you new tools to support idea generation\, clarity of movement\, and communication for the purposes of teaching and collaboration. First we will introduce Integrative Alexander Technique and its application to your questions about teaching\, creating\, and performing\, and then we will spend time with improvisation and composition scores complemented by brief writing exercises. DESCRIPTION:The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron is an international bestseller on the subject of creativity. Whether you see yourself as an artist or not\, this book and class can be an incredibly useful resource to tap into your creative side which can benefit many parts of your lives. Led by Creativity Instructor\, Kate Gavigan\, the 2 hour a week 12 week long class will take students through the 12 chapters with an emphasis on the accompanying chapter exercises and additional creativity exercises and strategies (i.e. meditation tools). This material can work with anyone\, no matter how dormant or energized their creative life may be.  \nJulia Cameron uses three basic tools for students to enhance their lives and their creativity: morning pages (writing 3 pages longhand of stream of consciousness writing)\, artist’s dates (solo fun dates with yourself) and completing creativity exercises at the back of each chapter. Students report that as a result of going through our Artist’s Way class they more fully and genuinely know themselves\, they discover or re-discover their gifts and talents and have more fun and joy in their lives.  \nTo quote Julia\, “In order to retrieve your creativity\, you need to find it.” The basic tools and the additional creativity exercises that we incorporate into the 12 week course can help you do just that. She bends time and space itself to be in dedication to the arts. She is using her voice in a new way to bring to light how the arts can help one navigate through stress and addiction. As a teaching artist\, Aviona is developing a solo show of self-written poetry\, storytelling\, and song which depicts the intersectionality of being multiracial\, accepting herself as queer\, while dealing with mental illness\, drug addiction\, and homelessness. A poetry writing workshop and an open mic follow each performance. So far this show has been translated into two languages and toured in 4 states. Aviona teaches theater and poetry writing courses for a multitude of organizations throughout including Artswest Gallery and Playhouse\, Mode Music and Performing Arts\, Seattle Repertory Theater\, Silverkite LLC\, Seattle Public Schools\, and Southwest Youth and Family Services.
