About the Project

A warm and poignant story of friendship, resilience, and humor among six strong southern women who gather regularly at a small-town beauty salon. Equal parts laughter and heart, this play celebrates the bonds that carry us through life’s highs and lows.

Rehearsals Begin: March 8th, typically running Sunday-Thursday nights.

Show Closes: 4/26/2026, with hold for potential show rescheduling until 5/3/2026

If you are unavailable for an in-person audition, you may submit a video audition. Email casting@rentoncivictheatre.org for instructions. Video submissions will be due no later than Saturday, January 31st at 12:00pm. Any videos submitted after that can will unfortunately not be in consideration.

Audition Requirements

Actors need to bring a printed headshot and resume, and prepare a single contemporary monologue that showcases their best work, no more than 2 min in length.

Character Breakdown

TRUVY JONES
Female-presenting, 30's-50's. Owner of the beauty shop. Feisty, wisecracking, and outspoken, she offers hairspray with a hefty dose of advice. (Ability to style hair a plus.)
ANNELLE DUPUY-DESOTO
Female-presenting, 20's. Beauty shop assistant. Unsure and timid at the beginning of the play but becomes outspoken. (Ability to style hair is a plus.)
CLAIREE BELCHER
Female-presenting, 60's-70's. Widow of former mayor. A Grande Dame who is elegant, sophisticated, intelligent, and witty.
SHELBY EATENTON-LATCHERIE
Female-presenting, 20's-30's. Strong-willed and passionate, she loves her mother and the other women but has a stubborn streak.
M’LYNN EATENTON
Female-presenting, 40's-60's. Shelby’s mother, a socially prominent career woman who is practical, intelligent, and loving. Passionate and stubborn about her daughter.
OUISER BOUDREAUX (pronounced “Weezer”)
Female-presenting, 50's-70's. A wealthy curmudgeon, acerbic but loveable – Southern to the core.
